How long will it take?
The exam will take approximately 1 hour.

Does it hurt?

No.The exam itself is relatively painless, depending on the patient’s condition.

Is non-invasive vascular lab preferable to x-rays?
No. There are many conditions in which only x-rays can be used to make a diagnosis.

What should I know about non-invasive vascular lab?
Non-invasive vascular lab helps to detect certain diseases earlier than other methods. In certain cases, it is the preferred diagnostic method.

Is non-invasive vascular lab safe?

Non-invasive vascular lab does not involve the use of x-rays. Instead, it uses sound waves, which are not harmful to the body. It can provide information without the risks of surgery.

What is non-invasive vascular lab?

Non-invasive vascular lab is a modern medical diagnostic procedure that uses techniques in detecting arterial and venous structures and diseases without the use of invasive surgical procedures.Non-invasive vascular lab produces better images of certain "soft" tissues (such as the heart) than x-rays because it distinguishes between different forms of tissue. Non-invasive vascular lab can also show internal motion such as blood flowing through the veins, the heart beating, etc.

The equipment used for non-invasive vascular lab is very sophisticated. The basic process is simple and painless.

* Transducer
The transducer produces and receives silent, high-frequency sound waves. The transducer is usually a hand-held instrument that is placed against the body and slowly passed over the area to be examined.

* Sound Waves
Sound Waves pass through the skin into the body. The sound waves strike various organs that send echoes back to the transducer. Tissue, blood, bone and fluid produce different echoes, which are then separated and identified by the transducer.

* Echoes
Echoes are changed into electrical energy by the transducer and the energy appears as images on a monitor. This allows physicians to "see" inside the body and monitor the movements of organs, such as the heart.

* Photographs and Films
Photographs and films of the images are taken for further study and interpretation.

* Results
Results are sent to the referring physician, who uses them, along with the patient's medical history and other tests, to make a diagnosis and determine treatment.

* Blood Pressure
Blood pressures will be taken for some vascular studies.

What can non-invasive vascular lab evaluate?

Vascular studies can evaluate the anatomy and functions of certain vessels.

During Pregnancy

Non-invasive vascular lab is safe.

What can I expect from an Exam?

The following are explanations of a typical exam. Exams may differ based on the individual patient.

The basic procedure is simple and painless:

* Examining Table
First, you will lie down on an examining table. Mineral oil or water-based gel is applied to the skin over the area to be examined.

* Transducer
The transducer will then be passed over the specified area several times. Most exams take approximately one hour.

How should I prepare?

There is no special preparation for this exam.

Ultrasound personnel

We have physicians and sonographers with specialized knowledge and training in ultrasound and/or vascular imaging. All full-service facilities have a Board Certified Physician and a Registered Vascular Technologist on site (RVT).
